Adapting Yoga for Older Adults

What If You Could Have an Arsenal of Go-to Poses Memorized and Ready to Support Your Older Students—so they can follow along without feeling awkward or lost during those postures and sequences that just don’t work for their body.


This workshop covers some of the most common physical and emotional challenges that many people experience as they age. Although, a regular yoga practice is known to benefit and support us as we age; it’s important to respect the limitations of our changing bodies.

Learn to keep your students safe by understanding our ever changing bodies, offering modifications and honouring the wisdom found in aging.

2.5 hour Session

Topics covered:

  • Yoga lifestyle practices to support older adults eg. restorative, breath work, modified asana
  • Teaching/practicing balance
  • Strengthening key muscle groups
  • Osteoporosis – yoga for strong bones
  • Arthritis/Joint pain – moving within available range of motion
  • Cautions and modifications

This workshop is designed for yoga teachers, or others who use movement when working with older adults.

Class will be held on Zoom and a post-live recording will be available.
